1) метаданные, описывающие модель данных (логическую структуру) БД
2) внешнее описание или диаграмма заданной в СУБД структуры записи (список всех полей и их типы, размер и т. д.). Термин был введён в 1971 г. для двухуровневого подхода к описанию структуры БД.
